There
is an ache in the human heart that happens when there is injustice.
There is a deep longing for that justice when we see someone vulnerable
and no one will fight for that person. Won't someone stand up for them?
Isn't there anyone who will fight for them?
I
was talking to my husband recently about a similar situation and told
him, "Every human heart longs to have someone who will fight for them
and should have someone who will fight for them." I paused and
contemplated that statement. Every human heart. The thing is, every
person has felt vulnerable at one point in his or her life. Even the
strongest, scariest man started out as a helpless boy and will
eventually become fragile in his old age once again.
The
beautiful promise for humanity is that the ultimate hero will fight for
them. One day, when Jesus returns, He will make every wrong, right.
Like the last fight scene in a superhero movie, just when it seems all
is lost and evil has won, Jesus is going to return to take His rightful
place as King and He is going to ensure that Justice reigns on the
earth.
We don't just eagerly wait for that day, though. God has told us that He requires something of us. We are to do justly.
Micah 6:8
He
has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of
you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?
A God-man named Jesus who fights and will fight for justice wants disciples who do as He does.
Psalm 68:5 says "A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation."
Psalm
12:5 says the following: "For the oppression of the poor, for the
sighing of the needy, Now I will arise," says the LORD; "I will set him
in the safety for which he yearns."
If
you have ever looked around and wondered who will fight for the orphan,
if you've ever wondered who will speak for the unborn child who cannot
speak for himself, if you've ever seen any situation and wondered "Who
will fight for that individual?", I want to tell you something. Go look
in the mirror. It doesn't matter if you are 15, 25, or 65 years old. Go
stand up for someone. If there is a vulnerable person who needs justice,
be that person's hero. Use your voice. I eagerly await the day when
Jesus makes every wrong thing right, but until that day, I commit to do
justly. Deep down, we all want to be a superhero and fight for justice.
Don't wait. Just go for it.
