Preparation and the Right Questions

Luke 22:7-13
Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be killed.
And He sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat."
So they said to Him, "Where do You want us to prepare?"
And He said to them, "Behold, when you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house which he enters. Then you shall say to the master of the house, 'The Teacher says to you, "Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?" ' Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room; there make ready."
So they went and found it just as He had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.

God has been speaking to Adam and I about the issue of preparation.  For years, we have heard Him speaking to us to prepare.  We don’t always have a sense of what is coming or when, but one thing we know – He wants us to prepare.  When we got involved in Crisis Response International, we felt like we finally had some clarity on why we needed to prepare.  We felt like crisis may be coming, but putting it in the context of being a mercy missionary in the midst of crisis rang true in our spirits.

I read Luke 12 today.  Verse 7-13 jumped off the page to me.  Jesus told Peter and John (two of His closest disciples) to go and prepare.  They were to prepare possibly the most important meal Jesus would have on this side of eternity.  I want to highlight the question that Peter and John asked Jesus after they were told to go and prepare.

So they said to Him, "Where do You want us to prepare?"

They could have taken the command to “go and prepare” and they could have left and done it in the best way they knew how.  I’m sure they could have found an okay room, and it would have been fine.  But Jesus knew of a furnished room of where they could make ready.   Jesus saved them some time by providing specifics.

I can’t help but wonder if Jesus would have given them that clue of how to find the room if they hadn’t asked him the question.  “Where do YOU want us to prepare?”

Many of us hear His command to go and prepare.  And we go and we prepare… but we often do it our way and in our own strength.

I encourage you to ask Him the right questions.  If He tells you to prepare, ask Him questions so that you will prepare HIS way.  God wanted Noah to build an ark, but God also wanted it done His way.  Doing things His way with specifics will save you time, energy, and it will also get you doing the right things in the right place and the right timing.

When you are obeying his command to prepare, nothing is more important – Listen to His command, ask questions, get the download of the details, and go do it.

What if Jesus meant what He said? - "If you love me..."

The thought occurred to me today.   What if Jesus meant what He said? He said a lot.   A whole lot. And if He is God, then we should listen to what He said. If He is our Lord, then we should listen to what He said. I want to go on a journey of exploring what He said.   He is the Word and He is God.   I think what He said is worth exploring and worth living by.   The first thing I want to look at is in John 14.   This will give the premise for the entire journey of seeking out what Jesus said.   Because if Jesus meant this… then the rest of what He said is VERY important. Jhn 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments.” Jhn 14:21 "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him." Jhn 14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come ...

A thought

There are easy days. And then there are difficult days. This is my reassurance: God is constant and He is always faithful. “If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.” – 2 Timothy 2:13

Ezekiel 14:12-23

I read this passage last night. I have seen a verse or two about it... but the entirety of it gripped me when I read it. I had never thought about it as a principle. "When a land sins against Me by persistent unfaithfulness..." Then I was blown away by the men God used as examples. Noah, Daniel, Job. Men whose lives have a tremendous impact on the end-time saints. To be the only ones delivered in your righteousness. What was it like to watch an entire culture that God was not pleased with and see his judgment poured out accordingly. Righteous men - Noah, Daniel, Job - who stood, even when they stood alone. And yes, all three of those men, stood in their righteousness alone. They all faced scoffing and hatred of them. There are lessons in all of these men's lives. God judges nations. He judges lands that sin against the Lord in persistent unfaithfulness. But there are righteous ones in the midst of judgment. Eze 14:12-23 The word of the LORD came again to me...
